2020: A Summary

Inhorgenta, Munich

In February, I headed to Munich to take part in Inhorgenta (a massive jewellery trade event). It was hugely successful for me and I am really pleased to announce some new stockists in Europe:

  • Sabine Herman Galerie, Brussels

  • Peschta, Vienna

  • Galerie Fur Kunst & Design, Pforzheim

  • Egolzwil, Switzerland

  • Artani, Stuttgart

  • Richter, Graz

I took my stainless steel collection to this trade show including pieces with colour and some of my finer pieces stainless steel pieces. It was a great way to start the year with valuable feedback and I was really happy to get some orders as well.

New Workshop in Glasgow

As some of you may know I took on a workshop space at the start of February this year in Glasgow’s lovely Finnieston area. This is the first time that I have worked away from my home/flat since I was a student in 2011 so it has been a big transition for me. However, I am loving it so far. I am really enjoying the ability to shut the door on my practical work rather then seeing it all the time. This isn’t to say some wire doesn’t make it home with me to be bent whilst watching tv!

The aim is to open the workshop more often to the public with classes and 1 to 1 sessions in the pipeline as well.

Podcast

I am having to do my next project rather differently than planned however I have decided to start a podcast where I interview makers from all over Scotland to ask about their practice and learn more about them as makers.

Once social distancing is relaxed I will visit these workshops but for now I am going to interview them online so that whilst at home you can listen to something new and learn about the rich pot of makers we have in this country. I will send out links to each podcast, but for now check out the Instagram page for updates.

Coronavirus

So it’s time to actually talk about coronavirus. As a self-employed person these are going to be some tough times ahead but I am a pretty positive person so seeing this as a challenge that can be overcome. Over the next few weeks and hopefully not too many months, I am going to be working hard on content to share with you, whether in the form of videos of me making, to my podcast interviews to hopefully a trip back to Skye to see my parents…I have been rather home sick the past few months and not being able to go home doesn’t help. But in all this I need your support more than ever, whether thats through a share of a post, sending a link to my website to a friend or being able to buy some jewellery. I am continuing to go to my workshop as I don’t come into contact with anyone so my online shop will be fully operational - if any supply chains breakdown I will amend pieces that I can’t make but for the most part everything is operational.

Thank you to everyone that purchased from my Mother’s Day promotion. I am going to be uploading new pieces to the website that I haven’t managed to so far, so look out for some new work.

But mainly, I hope you all stay healthy, look after your loved ones and together we will get through this tough time!
